Meet
Your Photographer My passion: My greatest passion is serving Christ, but my photographic passion since my first one in 1994 is weddings. I enjoy capturing the romantic moments, the family ties, and the little nuances that weren’t expected. The energy excites me and I strive to capture as much of it as possible on camera. My Style: There are many styles to choose from and you should make sure your photographer’s style meshes with yours. I’m flexible in ability to create traditional styles for the older generations and photojournalistic for the younger. Many weddings find me doing both to capture images appealing to all generations. I’ll even try to cater to the wacky people because I can sometimes be a nut when I let go. I have one style I always integrate into my work and I’ve named it “Romantic Couture”. I want to capture the intimacy between bride and groom and have learned they like those images most. My Approach: Before every wedding, I visit the ceremony and reception sites to get a lay of the land, preplan my vantage points and posing angles. I look to see where I can be with the least movement during the ceremony, where to put my slave flash and position my second shooter, when booked. I enjoy natural scenery to backdrops and will even visit nearby sites for better images. Once, for a very drab, tiny church, I visited the historic, brick Victorian next door and arranged for it to be my background. I like lots of background choices but look for creative ways to capture when limited. I stay on top of the industry trends by purchasing wedding magazines and books. Trends change and we should adapt as much as possible. Once it was lots of filters, but I found they could be overused. Then the S curve pose, which was actually difficult to guide in posing. Now, it’s a step or cross of the legs while standing and getting down low. A pro needs to have a plethora of ideas for posing; else all their weddings look alike. My Gear: Nikon with a 24-70mm lens. I like to zoom in and found digital easier not to zoom too close. I can always crop in. I can even creative crop and use depth of field to rid an image of unsightly intruders. Where I come from: (not all corn bread and chicken) I own a house in White House, TN, about 20 minutes north of Nashville. I grew up in Fayetteville, AR, graduated high school in Pittsburg, KS, and stationed with the USAF – the only branch to join – at RAF Chicksands, UK and Key West, FL where I photographed my first wedding for a Navy couple renewing their vows. More on that later. Tid Bits:
By taking time to build a trusting client relationship, our photography will portray your personal interests and wedding style. I look forward to photographing your wedding. James 615-730-3030
